Year notes
BMW facelifted the F20 in 2015 (commonly called the LCI). The pre-LCI car is 2012 to 2014. If your registration year is 2015 or later you almost certainly have the LCI car with LED headlights, which needs the F20 LED kit instead.
Installation
Each kit ships with RGBW PCB boards for both headlights, a linking wire to sync them, a Bluetooth controller paired to the LotusLamp X app, a wiring harness loom and thermal paste. The headlights need to come out for installation, so this is not a plug-and-play job. Any auto-electrician or trim specialist will fit it in well under an hour.
Common questions
- How do I know if my F20 is pre-LCI or LCI? Look at the headlight shape. Pre-LCI F20s have a round projector inside a chrome bezel and round angel eyes. LCI F20s have an L-shaped LED running line and angular LED units. Build year is the cleanest test: 2012 to 2014 is pre-LCI, 2015 onward is LCI.
- Will this kit fit my 3-door F21? Yes. The F20 5-door and F21 3-door share the same headlight assembly. As long as your F21 is a pre-LCI Xenon car, the kit fits.
- Will this kit work if my car has Halogen headlights? No. This kit is matched to the Xenon headlight DRL housing only. Halogen pre-LCI F20s use a different reflector and bulb arrangement, and the kit will not seat correctly.
